Birjand and Moud carpets represent Persian weaving artistry at its finest. They combine traditional motifs, natural materials, and over two centuries of heritage. Especially the Moud carpets from the namesake village near Birjand are prized worldwide for their fine knot density and symmetrical Herati design.
Birjand lies in South Khorasan province in eastern Iran, near the Afghan border. The villages of Mod (also spelled Moud) and Dorokhsh are renowned centers of carpet weaving. Even before the 20th century, Birjand was known as a hub for fine handmade carpets.
